DECANTER WORLD WINE AWARDS 2017
Score: 95 points – GOLD MEDAL

www.JancisRobinson.com – 30 Nov 2015 (WS) - Preview
Score: 17+/20
More youthful looking than the straight Barolo. Concentrated ruby with orange tinges. Compact and precise cherry nose with lovely depth. Plenty of enjoy here, with savoury, minerally notes and a touch of orange and rust. Precise, linear and very tight palate that is still little locked up, but with great potential. Elegant palate weight and masses of tannins. Long and brooding.
Drink 2018-2038

www.jamessuckling.com - 19 Feb 2017
Score: 93 points
Plum and flower aromas follow through to a full body, silky and juicy tannins and a flavorful finish. Remains subtle and lively.
Drink 2022.

THE WORLD OF FINE WINE – Issue 55/2017
Score: 90 points
Sweet floral nose, roses and violets with an underlay of raspberry fruit. Sleek and svelte, with La Morra elegance in spades and stylish if modest tannins. A descreet style but it's seductive and textured. Very subdued now but has finesse and length (Stephen Brook).

Clear, limpid red. Soft, ripe red fruits: moist pipe tobacco, a sweet autumnal earthiness. Almost dimpled, kinky fruits but it works very well. On the palate this is refined, enticing and very good. Soft, comely open with beautifully teased ripeness. If Barolo is a fine wine that, by dint of its aging procedures, you really can open, drink, savor and relish on release, this is really the perfect example of that. I don't doubt that it will age well, since its component elements seem to me to be outstanding, but it is very detaining and lovely just now. Not quite as deep as some, but for me aromatically gorgeous. No sense of it being a “secondary vintage” here, other than the wine's grace and charm at this early stage (Andrew Jefford).

2011 VINTAGE:

www.JancisRobinson.com – 30 Nov 2015 (WS)
Score: 17,5/20
Deep ruby with orange tinges. Lavish nose of cherry interspersed with spice and herbs. Intense and supple palate and with higher acidity than the 2011 Rocchettevino. Elegant, long an with compact tannins. Lots of promise.

BIBENDA 2017
Punteggio: 4 grappoli
Granato didascalico.

VITAE 2017 – Associazione Italiana Sommelier
Punteggio: 3 Viti
Rosso granato ancora compatto.

2010 VINTAGE:

Quench Magazine – Gurvinder Bhatia, August 2016
Pure crushed berries and plums with a hint of spice; full-bodied and compact, with loads of rich fruit and big, velvety tannins. A tight core; concentrated yet elegant and balanced with a long, lingering finish.
Lovely. Great with roasted meats and earthy dishes.
Outstanding

Vinealia.org - 22/09/2015
Score: 87/100

Score: 17,5+ points
Fermented in cement tanks and macerated on the skins for up to 20 days including the alcoholic fermentation. Aged in French and Slavonian oak casks.
Just mid ruby. Lifted spicy nose just beginning to show some nebbiolo fruit, but the brooding concentration is evident. Really distinct and stony. Great interplay between firm, coating tannins and tangy acidity. Has a lovely mid weight to it. The fruit is still hiding a little, so clearly one for the cellar. Elegant and slumbering and with lots of stuffing, 14,5%. Drink 2016-2032 (WS)

James Suckling.com – August 22th, 2014

Fresh rose with a layer of clear, stony air on the nose. Hint of earthiness and dried mushroom, plus mountain leaves with tannin. Good harmony with silky sweatness. Better in 2016.

Granato scuro.

International Wine Report – November 2014
Score: 90 points
The 2010 'Roggeri' opens up with lovely aromas of fresh strawberries, cherries, licorice, leather spices and dried floral. This is structured around a medium body and backed by fine tannins which carry through into the long chewy finish. Today the wine is a bit austere and still shows a youthful edge, but give it a bit more time. (Best 2016-2024).

2009 VINTAGE:

The nose is rich with oak and charcuterie hints. The palate is refined powerful and elegant all balanced with figs, cherry, clove and cigar box and green tobacco. Complex, long and very satisfying.

This is very classy for the vintage with a beautiful core of fruit and tannins. Very refined. Full body and very rich but all in balance. Beautiful wine for the vintage. Better in 2015

WEINPUR - Ed. 1/14

Dark red cherry, plum, mint, spice and licorice overtones flow from the 2009 Barolo Roggeri. Deep, fleshy and impeccably balanced, the 2009 possesses gorgeous harmony and class. All the elements fall into place in a sexy, supple Barolo to drink now and over the next handful of years.

WINE REVIEW ONLINE.COM – 27/08/2013
This is an intense, aggressively, modern wine with lots of oak showing in its youth, but it also shows excellent concentration and depth that enables it to come off as balanced, if rather brooding. Ripe but not raisiny, with dark toned fruit that is very dense and powerful, this will benefit considerably from five years of ageing, but (like many big 2009s) is already enjoyable with robust food.

WINE ENTHUSIAST – 01/09/2013
This Barolo shows the forwardness of the vintage, it’s delicious now. The fragrance shows ripe plum, balsamic herbs and a whiff of leather. The palate offers lush black cherry and plum flavors layered with coffee and chocolate notes and big but ripe tannins.

Concentrated ruby with orange tinges on the rim. A good mouthful of ripe fruit. Full bodied and with the right dose of acidity, but on the whole a little rustic.

This is full and powerful with chewy tannins and lots of chocolate, berry, tar and spice character. Very intense. Try in 2015

ROBERT PARKER – Antonio Galloni
The estate’s 2008 Barolo Roggeri is much more inthe style that has been the estate’s Achilles heel over the years. Dark berries, mocha, licorice, tar and spices struggle to emerge, but ultimately the French oak is simply too much for the wine’s mid-weight personality. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018
Rating: 86

THE WORLD OF FINE WINE – Nicolas Belfrage, Bruno Besa e Jancis Robinson
NB: Medium-full color correct. Fruit mingles with spice and herbs for dominance on nose. Some wood? Quite a chunky wine, tannins noticeable but sweet/savory fruit behind, solid structure matched by well-expressed fruit. Good length. Needs time. Drink from 2016, ideally.
16 Points

BB: Deep garnet to brick, tawny rim. Complex small-red-fruit nose, with prunes and cassis. Full-body palate, with sweet black-fruit character, a touch jammy but fairly long and balanced. Young wine that should develop gracefully.
16,5 Points

JR: Dark ruby. Quite an untense blackish ruby color. High-toned soapy nose. Very marked tannins. Quite a dense, ambitious wine that is less obviously Piemontese than some. Rather thick and foot-dragging for the moment. Needs quite a time. Drink 2017-25.

KYLE PHILLIPS’S ITALIAN WINE REVIEW – Garantito IGP: Tasting in Piemonte
Deep garnet with black reflections and almandine rim. Darker than many. The bouquet is fairly powerful, with greenish cedary notes mingled with some floral accents, violets and lavender, and some spice. Not much fruit. On the palate it’s ample, with moderate sour cerry fruit blanketed by cedary tannins that lay a veneer over the palate and flow into a splintery oaky finish. Lots of oak, and if you like that you will like the wine. But you have to be a fan of oak. 1 Star

A rich tasting Barolo.

BIBENDA 2013: Classico e di austera eleganza: fiori secchi, sottobosco, bacche, confettura, spezie dolci, cacao. Muscoli e potenza tenuti a bada da freschezza e tannino. Punteggio: 4 grappoli

Top!

JANCIS ROBINSON (07/06/2012) La Morra. Deep ruby with orange tinges. Creamy, sweet oak and dried fruit/fruitcake. Brash and modern and made in an accessible style. Low acidity, and gripping, full tannin. Drink 2012 to 2026. Score: 16 points

2007 VINTAGE:
WINE SPECTATOR Insider (03/10/12 Vol.8, No. 39): A warm red, exuding tar, tobacco, cherry, floral and sun-baked earth aromas and flavors, with a long, spicy finish. This still has the chewy texture courtesy of the tannins, but is developing nicely. Best from 2014 through 2026. Score: 93 points

WINE ADVOCATE (Oct 2011):
The single-vineyard 2007 Barolo Roggeri is deeper and more powerful than the regular bottling, but also quite a bit more tannic. The dark fruit is attractive, but the use of French oak dominates the wine's balance. Sweet spices, leather and licorice linger on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2019. Ciabot Berton is a solid, reliable producer in La Morra. Drink: 2014 - 2019. Rating 88, by Antonio Galloni

WINE ENTHUSIAST (09/1/2011): This is a tight and compact expression of Barolo with some meaty, earthy aromas at the back of berry fruit, cola and dried herbs. There is a lighter, more feminine side to the bouquet that is successfully contrasted against the bolder, thicker feel this wine imparts in the mouth. Score: 91 points

JANCISROBINSON.COM: 15.5 Drink 2012-19 La Morra. Medium concentrated ruby with orange rim. Initially somewhat marked by oak. Ripe fruit with cherry on the finish. Straightforard and well balanced and with ripe tannin. 15.5 Drink 2012-19 (WS)

2006 VINTAGE:
WINE ENTHUSIAST (12/1/2010): Blackberry, sweet vanilla and candied fruit are backed by oak-related aromas of spice and tobacco: but the real beauty of this wine is that those determined aromas are backed by a delicate fluttering of cola, licorice and eucalyptus. This is a long aging wine and the natural heft and thickness of its texture suggests that it has many years to go. Score: 92 points

WINE ADVOCATE (Dec 2010):
The estate's 2006 Barolo Roggeri reveals a darker shade of red in its intense, weighty fruit. This is a richer, more virile Barolo than the entry-level wine, but, it too, possesses gorgeous balance and a long, persistent finish that invites a second taste. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022. Drink: 2012 - 2022. Rating 90, by Antonio Galloni

DECANTER: Classic savoury., dark fruit, fennel rosesand violet perfume. Immediatly accessible red with balanced ripe fruit, refreshing acidity, nice use of oak and well-judged tannins. Ripe and silky. 17,5. Drink 2015-2022

WORLD OF FINE WINES (Issue 25 2009)
Nicholas Belfrage:
Good fruit behind, but lots of oak up-front on both nose and palate. Creamy tannins, which is good, and the acid is also good, but it’s just that bit too international wood-wise. 13
Roy Richards: bitter-cherry nose. Second nose: bitter chocolate. This is traditional, but august rather than rustic. It’s not a beauty today, but certainly has the potential to become so over time. 16
Franco Ziliani: ruby-violet, intense color. The nose is very complex and intense, with ripe fruit, wild game, leather, tobacco, earth, and mineral notes. Very harmonious and rich on the palate, with fantastic tannic structure, great persistence, and an earthy, mineral, savory character. Good potential for aging, as well. 16.5

VINUM (september 2008): Zürckhaltende Nase mit feinen Noten roter Beeren, auch würzige Komponenten; am Gaumen kompakt, geschmeidig, leckere geschliffene Gerbstoffe, fein ziselierte Säure, endet in einem leckeren, eleganten Fruchtfinale. 17 Punkte

WINE ADVOCATE (Apr 2009)
These 2004 Barolos are the finest wines I have tasted from Ciabot Berton. The 2004 Barolo Roggeri is richer darker and more powerful than the Barolo, but not necessarily a better wine. There additional fruit is matched by similarly intense tannins, and it looks like the structural components will win out over the fruit. Still, the wine should drink nicely over the next few years. Licorice, spices and flowers linger on the finish, adding a nice degree of complexity to the fruit. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2018. Drink: 2010 - 2018. Rating 90, by Antonio Galloni

Setosi i tannini. 91 punti (58° posizione su 100 vini)
